Interstate Design Center

Overlooking the Byram River in Greenwich, CT the Design Center is a renovation of Interstate + Lakeland Lumber’s original 1922 millwork shop.  To celebrate over 85 years in business, the company decided to pump new life into their under-utilized mill building and adaptively re-use it as their new Design Center.

A space that is as much a ‘museum’ that displays products like pieces of art as it is ‘shop’ to serve as a working space for builders, architects and homeowners.  The reuse and respect of the millwork shop’s original brick and timber frame construction and the display of the family’s original antique woodworking tools and vintage photograph’s succeeded in preserving a sense of authenticity to the company’s heritage in the space.

The Design Center provides Interstate + Lakeland Lumber’s patrons a place to roll out plans, interact with the products and representatives, and serves as the perfect backdrop to allow the homeowner to imagine the finishing touches on the design of their dreams.
