Saugatuck Rowing Club

Massing, materials and detailing of the exterior is inspired by seaside shingle style architecture, but the realities of constructing this multi-purpose facility required a skeletal structure of steel.  Rather than conceal the structure in its’ entirety, the interior is an intentional mixture of finished formal spaces juxtaposed to the loft-like recreational spaces with exposed structure, HVAC ductwork and sprinkler piping.

Shingle siding is white cedar and the roof shingles are red cedar.   Nautical motifs are incorporated into the details and finishes, including a lighthouse and oar porch railing system, striped cherry and oak flooring, and marine lighting.
